Service Description

MotherCircle–Adoption is an 8-week guided course for women mothering children they did not birth—whether through adoption, step-parenting, kinship care, or other life paths. This circle offers a sacred space to explore and gently integrate the often unseen and layered dimensions of mothering: physical, emotional, spiritual, sexual, archetypal, and ancestral. Grounded in trust and rooted in the thoughtfully crafted curriculum of Kimberly Ann Johnson, MotherCircle–Adoption provides a place for reflection, connection, and community. Through shared wisdom and intentional practices, participants are supported in honoring their unique journey, making meaning, and weaving that meaning into the story of their lives—together. As adoptive mothers ourselves, we know the longing for a different kind of conversation when raising a child born from another mother’s womb. In adoption, there are countless opinions—about why we became adoptive mothers, the stories of our children and their birth families, and the projections and assumptions placed on us and our children. Adoption is often viewed as controversial and complex—and it is—but it is also deeply sacred and profoundly beautiful. This circle is devoted to exploring not only the universality of motherhood but also the unique complexities that adoption carries. For millennia, women have gathered in circle. Ancient wisdom and modern research alike affirm that when women come together, their mental health, resilience, and sense of belonging expand. And when mothers thrive, communities thrive.
